After a great hiatus (I had not flown since Feb 05, 2004) I planned to take my friend Rene up for a flight on his birthday.  Rene was also a Private Pilot but he had not flown in quite some time.  I booked the flight with a school located at Kitchener/Waterloo Airport.  (CYKF)

The flight was planned to be a trip from Kitchener, to Toronto City Center (CYTZ) with a stop on the return leg at Brantford (CYFD).  I always wanted to try to fly an aircraft into Toronto City Center as it is a really neat airport located on a small island right in the heart of Toronto.

The flight departed early with a quick trip around the pattern followed by a touch and go to show that I hadn’t lost all ability to fly!  I was in the left seat, the instructor in the right and Rene sat in the back.  We were basically vectored the entire trip into Toronto.  I passed by a huge set of smokestacks and made my way up Lake Ontario towards the airport.  On descent it was hard to take in the scenery as I was fixated at the concrete wall just at the end of the runway that fell off into the cold blue water.  My landing had to be a touch and go to save on the fees.  It was adequate and we were off. CYTZ   CYTZ

Rene, ever the navigator managed to find his father’s house from the air and I circled it as he called his dad from his phone.  We managed to take some phosts then head over to Brantford.  Once heading up the 403 highway we noticed a lot of haze in the area.  The instructor decided we should head back to CYKF and avoid the touch and go at Brantford.  I accepted this and headed back.  The landing and roll up was bittersweet as I knew what I was missing once again!
